Let's face it: whether you are a public charter school or a public school within the District of Columbia, our students are in trouble. What with an average of 33% of DC students (public OR charter) making AYP each year, it is time for everyone to take action.
In the state of Massachusetts, an idea that has caught on is a friendship between their public and public charter schools. They share resources, professionally develop together, and run programs to help students across schools. Any thoughts for how this could work for the District of Columbia? We know money is tight and schools are in competition for our students, but it is time to move above that and improve school for ALL the students of the District of Columbia.
What do YOU think this could look like in DC?

I feel like right now there is intense competition between public and charter schools (in particular at schools where enrollment is low.) Schools are fighting for students and the money they bring in. In order to make collaberating work, it must be mutually beneficial to both parties. I'm not sure I see this happening........
ReplyDeleteWhat is the point? Michelle Rhee is bascially battling the charter schools. I think that there should be resources for all, this is great. However, I think that people are not looking at the kids, only themselves. There is this immense competition that happens. It really is taking away from the children. Why?
